Composite Fillings — and Replacing Old Silver Ones

Older "amalgam" (silver) fillings can darken over time, expand and contract with temperature, and leave teeth prone to cracks. Many Boston patients come to us simply to swap those dark fillings for modern, tooth-colored ones. Composite resin bonds directly to the tooth, requires less drilling, and looks completely natural — which is why it’s our material of choice for both new cavities and replacements.

Your visit is straightforward: we gently numb the area, remove any decay, place and shape the composite, then cure and polish it so it feels just like your own tooth. If decay is more extensive, your dentist may recommend a dental crown instead to fully protect the tooth.
